I feel as a Top Fuel and Funny Car Fan, the decision to go back to 1320 Feet in Top Fuel and Funny Car will come sooner rather than later. Other than having a called shot history, and expecting to be right within a day and a half, I would feel the push for 1320 Feet instead of 1000 Feet would be the fans and even their sponsors.
I'd feel like the issue at heart is having an imbalance in the Nitro/Air Quotient it is a Science Project and it is an imbalance. It gets harder just to blow through parts and nobody likes entry lists to suffer as an immediate result.
Just because you'd have more physical stock does not mean people are happy with the product that always is put out there. It is not fun to always be Off-Hours than On-Hours, but, it feels like the People that are Off Hours from On Hours are not doing their job right.
This would not all be in my hand, as a Fan, and we'd need more reason to have More Pro Stock Again, too. It hurts to find everyone who was 24 Races Entered and Started last year, which would make the NHRA Power Rankings moot and ineffective.
The downside with Drag Racing, you'd have to be effective and well adjusted to make a long run and not have to need anyone and everyone to make the series. It would be terrible publicity to have anyone have to be needed to race, and consolidating classes is a last resort.
